My name is Emmanuel Andrade and I am a currently a college student majoring in Biomedical Engineering (specializing in musculoskeletal biomechanics - prosthetics) and minoring in both computer science and education at the University of California, Davis. My whole life I have been raised in Lost Angeles County, California, where my current place of residence is in Montebello, CA. In addition, I have also lived in the following cities:
- Van Nuys
- Carson
- Harbor City
- Long Beach (twice)
- Paramount
My K-12 Education
Regarding my K-12 education, because I moved around a lot, I hava attended many different schools (nine to be exact) in two school districts. For my K-6 education I attended schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and for my 6-12 education I attended schools in the Paramount Unified School District (PUSD). During my middle school years (6-8) because I moved from one school district to another (LAUSD to PUSD) and because the Paramount school systems was changing, I never attended one school for longer than a year. Crazy! Also, fun fact: unlike others who started thier schooling at the age of 5, I started my schooling when I was 2 years old!
Following is a breakdown of the schools I attended throughout my K-12 education.
- Elementary Schools
- Delores Street Elementary (up until K)
- Broad Avenue Elementary (1st - 2nd grade)
- Lomita Math/Science/Technology Magnet School (3th - 5th grade)
- Middle Schools
- Fleming Middle School (first half of 6th grade)
- Tanner Middle School (second half of 6th grade)
- Roosevelt Middle School (7th grade)
- Paramount Park Middle School (8th grade)
- High Schools
- Paramount High School - West Campus (9th grade)
- Paramount High School - Senior Campus (10th - 12th grade)
My College Education
Regarding my college education, I have only attended UC Davis for the past 4 years (going on to my fifth). Since I have been admitted, I major has been (and will continue to be) Biomedical Engineering. At the end of my third year I made the decision to pursue a minor in Computer Science, since I just LOVE programming (check out my hobbies!), and the beginning of my fourth year was when I decided to also a pursue a minor in education, since I already began taking some classes and I had some experience (also, teaching is my back-up career).
My Plans After College
After completing my undergraduate education here at UC Davis, I plan to go straight to Graduate School to pursue a Masters and PhD in Biomechanics and/or Neuroscience to advance my career in Neuroprosthetics. Eventually, one day, I plan to start my own company in the field of prosthetics (with an emphasis on neuroprosthetics). In addition to humans, I would also like to design prosthetics for animals as well.
My Hobbies
- Programming. The languages I know how to use are:
- Java
